Day 3

Friday, we learned, is a very busy day here at the station. I've seen a lot of people come in and get in commercial recordings, I could hear someone record a school spotlight in one room, and then Scott (his last name escaped me) taught us a lot about recording commercials. Then we got to talk with Natalie a lot. Matt showed us how the soundboard and computers worked while going on air. And we also recorded a segment with Ryan Thompson that'll be playing during the girls half-time game tonight over the radio.
Before recording our segment.

We got to go into the recording room, and using two different computers, sound system, and sound board, we helped him record two commercials. It's a harder process with the system then what we have with garageband, but it has a lot more quality. It was interesting to see how the information is put in to find the commercial, and what needs to be put in for the commercial. Then we saw how he added better quality to his voice and music behind it as well.

Testing the volume and recording Scott.

When spending time with Natalie, we learned a lot about the business end of the station. She is in charge of creating logs, in voices, commercial ads, budgeting, and much more. She showed us the system she uses for logs and budgeting, and expelling, with the logs, how she uses a program to set up each hour. In that there are the announcements, commercials, and things like that. She prints it out as a small back up.

  2. I am so glad you are having a great time at your internship! It looks like you are learning a lot about what roles have to be filled in a place like KAYL. I didn't get the chance to catch you on the radio the other day, but Mrs. Olsen did! It really is exciting to see you get the chance to try out something and enjoy it. Going into this next week, I would really like to see you blog about some of the other aspects of your internship, like: what are some of the specific life lessons you can learn from your internship? Is there some specific advice you could get from Natalie or Scott? If you need some other ideas for your blog you could check out the prompts: https://docs.google.com/a/newell-fonda.k12.ia.us/document/d/1EXlipWsKHdOb6qkwVzgBKPY7YtPcw3VlRRRWXxQRsA/edit?usp=sharing
